TVS Sport Review: 100 out of 100

The aspirations of people in India are growing – we see a growing and changing preferences of a 2 wheeler-buyer. The youth in urban areas and cities, college goers, people working in companies goes after a motorcycle with good looks, design, performance etc. The priorities are different for those are seeking a pure commuter motorcycle – people who look for commuter motorcycles (100cc bikes) are simply not looking for a financially viable solution but also expect the real value from the product which they have purchased – be it the long-lasting factor, mileage factor, ease-of-use and what-not.

The 100cc Sport which we are going to review Today is the entry-level motorcycle from TVS Motor Company. Designed for those who are strictly looking for a commuter motorcycle solution, the bike has been given the very straight tagline “Mileage ka Baap“. Does this bike really stand for what it is claimed for? Let us find out.

First Impressions

We picked the TVS Sport in Indigo Streak Color (White and Blue Color)  from the Prakruthi TVS showroom in Jalahalli of Bengaluru. At the first glance, we noticed the TVS Sport with BS-4 sticker and the automatic headlamp on (AHO). The headlight of TVS Sport is pretty powerful and mind you – you cannot turn it off (which is by design) because of the new Government regulation. The Sport also carries the “ES” tag with the logo which indicates the “Electric Start” function present in the bike.

Design

TVS Sport gets a pretty simple design – nothing is over done. When you sit on the bike, you will feel how light is the bike. Along with Electric Start, TVS Sport gets the Kickstart which can be saviour for you at the times when you need it. Please read How to Kickstart a TVS Sport motorcycle? – the operations are bit different.

Ergonomics wise, the bike is extremely comfortable and can easily take good load. The instrument panel in the front is analog and is pretty neat which gets covered all the vital information for the rider like speed, kilometers driven, fuel indicator, turn indicators, power-economy indicator etc.

Engine and Transmission

The all new TVS Sport is powered by 99.7cc 4 stroke air-cooled engine. This little 100cc engine of TVS Sport can produce power of upto 7.5 PS @ 7500 rpm and produces a peak torque of 4.5 Nm @ 5500rpm. This 100cc engine of TVS Sport is mated a 4-speed manual transmission gearbox.

Dimensions

The fuel tank capacity of Sport is 10 litres which includes 2 litre reserve. That is quite a big fuel tank for a commuter motorcycle like TVS Sport. When it comes to dimensions, TVS Sport measures 1950mm in length, 1080mm in height, 705mm in width and gets a wheelbase of 1236mm. The kerb weight of TVS Sport is 108.5 Kgs ( with full tank fuel and other lubricants). The ground clearance of TVS Sport is 170mm – which is great to ride on any given surface with ease without hitting the floor of the bike.

Ride and Handling

The ride quality on TVS Sport is really good. I had got this motorcycle for sufficiently good time for about 1 week with full tank fuel. It is the rider’s moment when you have a full tank fuel, I tried to make use of it at the fullest by taking the motorcycle from Home to Work, which has a total commute distance of 45 Kms.

The bike offers pretty good control on city roads as well as highways. In the busy Bengaluru where the streets are filled with mostly automatic scooters, powerful 150-250cc motorcycles, Royal Enfields etc, the TVS Sport did stand out because of its consistent performance. There were no issues faced while negotiating the bumper-to-bumper traffic – all thanks to the light weight body.

While inside I had a feeling that I am riding a 100cc bike and I might not be able to overtake the big motorcycles like Royal Enfield, I made a difference by overtaking the bikes running on elevated highways – well, there were no issues at all. The bike kicks in enough torque and power which is actually sufficient for you to take on most motor vehicles on the road.

The best part comes here, TVS Sport can be unanimously called as King of mileage bikes. With so much of riding through out the week, even with achieving good speeds in the “Power mode”, the fuel indicator in the front instrument cluster still showed there were 2 sticks remaining! That is quite a bit of saving. With the same amount of fuel on a 150cc motorcycle, I should have walked into petrol pump for atleast once or twice.

Well it stands for it has advertised for – it is really “Mileage Ka BAAP“. The bike also performed well with the pillion rider on back.

Suspension and brakes

TVS Sport gets telescopic hydraulic suspension in the front and gets a 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. Passing through the speed breakers was not an issue. Even the braking worked well, although the Sport is offered with only drum brakes(both in front and rear).

TVS Sport: Colors offered

The all new TVS Sport is offered in 7 different colors which is categorised into standard and premium.

Standard Colors

  • Volcano Red
  • Blaze Red
  • Electric Green
  • Black Silver

Premium Colors

  • Dazling White
  • Indigo Streak
  • Mercury Grey

TVS Sport Price

The ex-showroom price of TVS Sport ES (the one which has been reviewed here) is INR 47,005. TVS also offers Sport in Kick Start variant only which is priced at INR 39,675 and there is also TVS Sport with Spoke is INR 36,745.

Verdict

We fully recommend the TVS Sport for someone who is looking for mileage-friendly commuter bike. The motorcycle gives you a long-lasting feeling and offers great mileage figures. The addition of automatic bright headlamps, upgraded environment friendly BS4 engine, electric start, large fuel tank, ability to carry good load adds good value to the bike. The price of the bike is affordable at just INR 47,005 for the electric start version. TVS Sport is a great competitor of Hero Splendor, HF Deluxe, Dream Yuga, Bajaj CT100 and other commuter motorcycles.
